The “Wow!” signal from 2X01: Little Green Men: an alternative explanation – hydrogen from comets?

The “new mythology” and 2010s politics — I don’t agree with everything in this article but it does give food for thought. I believe one of the reasons why the new mythology doesn’t sit well with me is that many conspiracy theories are not underground anymore but are the matter of much debate, many of them associated with far-right propaganda. The X-Files hasn’t changed, rather it’s the world around it — and the real-world associations and implications of some of its ideas — that has changed.

The information to confirm or infirm anything is widely available but so are opinions of any kind, and this should make interesting story-telling, however the ambiguity of “My Struggle” was lost in the starightforward endorsement of O’Malley’s theses in “My Struggle II”.

The lowdown for the X-Files comics finale: a bittersweet feeling for a rushed ending that could have taken more time to develop, but manages to pull off what the live series didn’t, ie closure! A close examination of the final issues + a discussion of the behind the scenes over 2015-2016 that led to this finale.

New interview with Chris Carter. The following quotes confirm that we are on completely new ground, and imply that whatever direction for the mythology Carter had in mind in the years after the show ended in 2002, we have irreversibly diverged away from it:

About the mythology in season 10:
“The mythology has taken a big turn, and if you’re a fan of the show you will – especially if you’ve parsed the mythology — you’ll know that we’re on sort of a new path. So I didn’t know I would be here now.”

About writing “My Struggle I”:
“In this series she [wife Dori Carter] was very involved right from the beginning. Actually her ideas became episode one. I had done something, a feature script, and she liked many things about it, and it she said you should use elements of that in the episode. And then she read the episode and she made many good notes, she had one perfect line. So yes I use her, to great effect.”

Interview with Joe Harris on new XF comics series taking place in-continuity with the revival:

“So after issue #1, we’re going to tackle a couple of two-part “Monster of the Month” stories which will lead up to a four-part Mytharc storyline kicking off in issue #6 that will pick up on some of the mysteries left from “Active Shooter,” and focus this series on a long range mission statement that, I hope, both plays well with whatever comes next on the television landscape as well as stands solidly on its own merits.”

Given how everything is up in the air with “My Struggle II”, I wonder how related this ‘new comics mythology’ will be to the show’s mythology, or whether it will be a parallel mystery arc like the early XF Petrucha/Adlard 1990s comics had.

Who would possibly want to read the adventures of teen Mulder and teen Scully? New 4-issue comics coming in August.
“Before the FBI, before the X-Files, they were just two teenagers in search of the truth. On Martha’s Vineyard, a young Fox Mulder investigates something strange happening on the island, while in San Diego, 13-year-old Dana Scully looks into the shocking murder of her teacher. Two kids, two mysteries, one conspiracy that threatens the future of humanity.”

[The X-Files] now too has built its story upon Henrietta Lacks. There is no denying the truth in her existence or the unethical practices of human experimentation without consent. HeLa cells have proven their immortality. Let’s make sure that the memory of Henrietta Lacks’ remains immortal too.

Frank Spotnitz speaks on XF season 10: says he cannot be objective, it shows he would have loved to have been a part of this…but also, ultimately, he doesn’t say whether he liked it or not! (from 2:30 in the video)
Also, if more XF happens, it won’t be for another year or so and Spotnitz already has other things in his pipeline — he might have left The Man in the High Castle but he is busy enough with many other projects (e.g. Medici). To be continued…

New Carter interview. Sounds very happy with how the revival turned out. He used to sound like he had a set idea on what direction to take things, now he sounds as if Fox orders more of XF he will write something that will be a completely new idea… Still keen to do a 3rd #TheXFiles movie: conspiracy story or stand-alone?
“Whatever it would be, would be a big screen approach, meaning that it would be a big screen story, and I think we told a very big screen story in the first movie. And in the second movie we took a darker, more stand-alone approach, and I think an audience wants a big screen, more epic approach from a big screen X-Files story, so I think whatever it would be, I think it would now be built on the experiences of both of those movies.”

Mark Snow’s Vol.3 of X-Files music to be released in Sep/Oct by LaLaLand! Great news and hoping for 4 more CDs!

Volume 3 is just about done. It’s looking like Sept or Oct. We have such a massive backlog of titles that were supposed to be out Jan to June 2016 that everything is being pushed back and back and back. I have given up on any schedule for the sake of sanity and am currently “going with the flow.”
(The flow sucks. I’ll take roaring rapids any day)
The mini series is a different animal — a new release that falls under different guidelines for approvals an such.
Hopefully things will come together this summer so we can start releasing some great new Fox TV shows.

Carter interview. S11? “I’m excited to see big shapes start to develop. I hope they give me a lot more time to try and write it, but it’s usually the case where you’re always in a rush. It’s a feature of series television.”
